"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me" (Matthew 25:40 NIV).
In June of each year, missionaries from SPUMC travel to Huaycan, Peru, for ten days of life-changing work. The mission: to begin the building process for a facility for the handicapped of Huaycan. The result has been a true blessing for the team and led to life-long relationships with the people of Peru.
Please continue reading below to see photos and stories from this awesome mission experience. If you would like more information of future teams or are interested in contributing to SPUMC's future missionary efforts, please contact the church office. All donations are tax deductible, and 100% of the funds go to the mission work of SPUMC Mission Teams.
Peru is a developing country located in the middle of South America, along the Pacific Ocean. A country with breathtaking scenery and rich history, having once been the hub of the Inca Empire, today it has a population of 27 million.
Lima, the capital, has a population of about 12 million, with an unemployment and under-employment rate over 50%. Lima is growing rapidly due to people coming from all over the country looking for opportunities and work to sustain life. As a result, the government finds itself overwhelmed. This situation has created extremely poor shantytowns on the outskirts of the city.
Children and the disabled are particularly in need, with a great number of them undernourished and with little or no access to medical care, education, decent housing, or employment opportunities.
It is our purpose to show our love and compassion to those less fortunate. We believe in helping empower others to help themselves. Whether by purchasing new clothing items for the needy or building structures, it is our hope to show God's love in every aspect of our time with His children in other countries.
REMEMBER, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP IN ANY WAY WITH FUTURE MISSION TEAMS, PLEASE CONTACT THE CHURCH OFFICE.
